Meet Paul and Maureen
Paul and Maureen first met over 14 years ago, when they were both innocent teenagers (just go with it). Paul was a theatre director and Maureen was a professional singer. They quickly found they had a lot in common including a borderline obsession with musical theatre. Something they have loved for almost their whole lives.
Since Maureen became Elphie to Paul’s Glinda or Vera to his Mame (we could go on), they’ve been on all sorts of musical theatre adventures together, from covering the Tony and Olivier Awards, to creating The Late Late Show at The Crazy Coqs and hosting Birdcage at HClub, both in London’s West End. They’re both really chuffed to have also won two awards for their broadcasting endeavours.
Paul prides himself on being a veritable walking musical theatre encyclopaedia. If he ever went on Mastermind, it would definitely be his specialist subject. His favourite musicals include Grey Gardens, The Sound of Music, Sunday in the Park with George, She Loves Me, and Nine. His favourite drink before a show is a Whiskey Smash and he loves to pick up a cheeky McFlurry on the walk back to the station (it’s a guilty pleasure – well, that and loving the musical of Copacabana).
Maureen‘s love of musical theatre has grown into producing shows such as Promises, Promises at the Southwark Theatre and Composer Scott Evan Davis’ Song Cycle Cabaret at The Pheasantry. Her favourite musicals include Company, My Fair Lady, 42nd Street, The Producers, and Girl From the North Country. Maureen is always happy to meet for a drink – prior to a show, after a show, occasionally during, it really doesn’t matter as long as she can have a dirty Martini (extra dirty, of course).
